Gränsfors Splitting Axes - informatii

Gränsfors Splitting Axes are designed to break down whole logs or log sections through a splitting action. They are built to split along the grain, unlike forest axes, which cut perpendicular or oblique to the grain. The axe head features a simple, straight design; immediately behind the cutting edge, the profile curves into a concave shape—which greatly aids in forcing the wood fibers apart—before terminating in a convex edge. All axes in this range feature a metal collar to protect against overstrike impacts (such as hitting the chopping block) and a textured handle section for a secure grip. The range consists of six axes and one splitting wedge. The six axes are based on just three head designs, with two handle options available for each head. The smallest head is used for the Splitting Hatchet and Small Splitting Axe; the medium head is used for the Large Splitting Axe (available with standard or long handles); and the largest is the Splitting Maul—the only model with a poll designed for striking a wedge—which is also available with either a long (standard) or shorter handle. The Large Splitting Axe and Splitting Maul share the same two handle options. If you would like to find out who crafted your axe, here is a link to the Gränsfors page containing this list (at the bottom of the page).
