Brusletto Nansen. A tribute to the famous Nansen. A traditional Norwegian knife (tollekniv) inspired by the one Fridtjof Nansen received from the Inuit in Greenland in 1888 and later used on his expeditions. Both the knife and the sheath faithfully reflect the style of Sami knives.
F. Nansen (1861–1930) was a Norwegian explorer, scientist and diplomat. He led the first crossing of the Greenland interior on skis in 1888 and the Fram polar expedition of 1893–96. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1922.
The knife is a traditional Nordic classic, simple and elegant, an all-purpose utility knife, good for everyday use, as Nansen did on his expeditions. The blade is made of 12C27 stainless steel, easy to resharpen in the field. It has a Scandi grind and tapers slightly towards the tip, giving good cutting performance and precise control. One side of the blade is marked with the usual Brusletto logo, while the other is marked with Fridtjof Nansen's signature, giving the knife a historical and distinctive character.
The handle is made of curly birch, stained with a reddish tint and treated with oil. It is designed in the classic Sami style, with a flared end. A nickel silver ferrule joins the blade to the handle.
The sheath is made of brown natural cowhide leather and has a traditional shape. The seam down the middle of the back, the distinctive decorative tip and the leather strap tied to the top for fastening to the belt are all typical of these historic knives. The traditional belt attachment has advantages: it is movable and works as a dangler, so the sheath adapts to positions such as sitting or squatting, and the strap can easily be replaced if it wears out or is accidentally cut. The sheath is decorated with an embossed portrait of Fridtjof Nansen and a traditional pattern. Inside is a plastic insert that prevents the blade from cutting the sheath.
Important! The YouTube video shows or may show outdated information, such as the steel grade. Its purpose is only to present certain details that do not appear in the images and to show the size in relation to the hand. The product box comes from older stock and also contains outdated information about the steel. The current information, received from the manufacturer, is in the specifications table. The numerical values are currently taken from the Brusletto website and have not been verified by us; in reality they may differ slightly. Some images may show the old version of the logo on the blade, and all images are for illustration purposes only. Wood is a natural material and every handle is unique, so variations in colour or grain are significant.
