Brusletto Build-it-yourself Whittling Knife Kit. Brusletto DIY Spikkekniv Kit. Brusletto Build-it-yourself Spikkekniv Set. Brusletto Build-it-yourself Kit 3 Whittling Knife (Byggesett 3 Spikkekniv). Brusletto knife kit Spikkekniv. Make your own Brusletto Spikkekniv knife, a favourite of craft instructors in Norway.
An almost complete kit for building a Brusletto Spikkekniv whittling knife. All you need besides the kit is a little skill, glue, a sewing needle (not included, although it is mentioned), tools for marking and punching holes in the leather for the stitching, possibly some sandpaper and boiled linseed oil. You can optionally stain the handle in your favourite colour before the oil treatment. The handle wood in the kit has a fairly uniform appearance and is light in colour, so it is easy to colour.
If it seems complicated or you want the factory-made knife, you will find it in the shop: Brusletto Spikkekniv. Unlike the kit, the finished knife has a mountain birch handle (with more pronounced grain) and a nickel silver ferrule.
The kit contains 6 items: the finished and sharpened blade of the Spikkekniv knife (440C stainless steel), a handle identical in shape to that of the Spikkekniv knife (most likely plain birch), already formed, drilled for the blade and shaped for the ferrule, but unfinished, a silver-coloured metal ferrule (probably stainless steel or another nickel-plated metal), a plastic insert for the inside of the sheath, a pre-cut piece of black cowhide leather for the Spikkekniv sheath, and waxed sewing thread. The kit may come with or without packaging!
The specifications table contains only information about the blade, received from the manufacturer. The numerical values are currently taken from the Brusletto website and have not been verified by us; in reality they may differ slightly. Details about the handle and sheath are in the description.
Tools, glue, wood finishing materials and a sewing needle are required (the needle is not included, although it is mentioned in the manufacturer's description and even on the packaging).
Instructions are included in English and Norwegian, but they do not refer exactly to this kit; they do, however, contain useful information. The YouTube video (in Norwegian) also shows how to shape a rough handle, a step that is not necessary for this kit. There are many other video tutorials, in both English and Romanian, for fitting the handle as well as for making the sheath, whether or not the leather is already cut. The images are for illustration purposes only, and one of them shows the knife and sheath made by the factory (for illustration purposes).
